For cyclists seeking both charm and convenience, this loop delivers. Linking Sheridan, Westfield, Carmel, Broad Ripple, Fishers, and Noblesville, the route offers a blend of small-town serenity and urban bustle—with the comfort of wide, well-kept trails most of the way.
Begin your ride in Sheridan, near the northern end of the Monon Trail at Biddle Memorial Park. The trail here feels peaceful and remote, lined with trees and farmland. As you glide south, the scenery slowly shifts to Westfield’s growing neighborhoods and massive Grand Park Sports Campus, and then into Carmel’s manicured trail corridors—lined with public art, pocket parks, and access to downtown shopping and dining.
Press on into Indianapolis’ Broad Ripple Village, where the Monon Trail cuts through one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Just off the path, you’ll find Half Liter BBQ & Beer Hall, a local favorite known for its incredible outdoor patio and ample bike parking—both situated right alongside the Monon. It’s a perfect place to rest, refuel, and enjoy smoked meats, local brews, and shaded seating just steps from your ride.
Keep going south on the Monon until 42nd Street, where you’ll find the Nickel Plate Trail at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. As you continue northeast on the Nickel Plate through Fishers and its downtown Nickel Plate District area, the trail provides a comfortable buffer from busy surroundings and connects you to the Midland Trace Trail just south of downtown Noblesville.
Take time to venture off-loop by taking the White River Greenway north to explore Federal Hill Commons, the courthouse square, or grab coffee from a local café before heading back continuing west on the Midland Trace Trail through Westfield. If you have time, a pause at Grand Junction Plaza for a fountain-side rest is worth it. Continue on the Midland Trace until you run into the Westfield Washington Public Library, where you’ll take connector trails on Westfield Boulevard and 169th Street before rejoining the Monon Trail northbound back to Sheridan.
