Start your ride along the B&O Trail, a peaceful greenway that stretches across the west side of Indianapolis and beyond into Hendricks County. Whether you’re starting from Downtown, Haughville, or points further west in Hendricks County, the route offers an easygoing mix of tree-lined paths and neighborhood views as you make your way toward Speedway.
As the trail leads you into town, Main Street comes into view, lined with welcoming storefronts, patios, and the subtle roar of engines from the nearby racetrack. This is the heart of Speedway, a neighborhood best known for hosting the largest single day sporting event in the world each May: the Indianapolis 500. But beyond the track, Speedway has quietly built a name for itself as a hub for craft beer, cocktails, and laid-back hospitality. Main Street has a connector trail linking the B&O through the village and up to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Your first stop is Daredevil Brewing Company, a cornerstone of the local beer scene. Known for its bold, hop-forward beers like the Lift Off IPA, Daredevil offers a bright, modern taproom with plenty of space to relax indoors or outside. The brewery often hosts food trucks and pop-up vendors, making it an ideal post-ride stop to refuel.
A short block away, Big Woods Speedway brings a cozy brewpub vibe with hearty food and an impressive selection of craft beers. Their signature Busted Knuckle and seasonal offerings are always on tap, and the shaded patio is a great place to people-watch while enjoying a burger, soft pretzel, or one of their wood-fired specialties.
Along the same street, you’ll also find Foyt Wine Vault, which offers wine flights and pours in a racing-themed lounge named for Indy legend A.J. Foyt. If you’re looking to switch from beer to wine mid-outing, this is an easy and enjoyable transition.
From here, hop back on the B&O Trail and enjoy an easy ride out of town. As the sun starts to set over the west side, you’ll cruise past quiet neighborhoods and tree-lined stretches, legs content and spirit lifted from a day of good beer, good company, and a neighborhood that knows how to welcome its guests.
