Indianapolis Cultural Trail
Named "the biggest and boldest step by any American city" by Project for Public Spaces, this internationally-acclaimed 8-mile biking and walking trail connects all six of Indy's Cultural Districts.
The city’s first glow-in-the-dark trail connects several parks and neighborhoods, paying homage to a colorful crushed-glass path from the mid-1900s.
The Pogues Run Greenway is a short-but-mighty urban trail experience on Indy’s Near Eastside, offering about 2.4 miles of paved, off-street path that begins near the Indianapolis Cultural Trail/Monon Trail connection at 10th Street and carries you northeast through the greenspace of Spades and Brookside parks. It’s in these two parks you’ll encounter perhaps the most unique trailway experience that pays homage to a glass factory that used to be in the area. Here the trail is embedded with glow-in-the-dark stones that make for a fun evening experience. (Note: while the trail is open 24 hours, the parks are closed after dusk.)
Following the course of Pogue’s Run, the trail feels like a creekside escape threaded right through the city, with pockets of wetlands and tree cover that soften the surrounding neighborhoods and create a surprisingly peaceful ride or walk.
What gives Pogues Run its personality is the blend of nature + neighborhood story. You’re moving alongside a historic waterway while passing through areas known for Indy’s classic Near Eastside character, and the route is intentionally designed to be more than transportation, with public art elements integrated into the experience. It’s an easy pick for a casual out-and-back.
