White River Greenway (Central)
The White River Greenway follows the scenic White River through the heart of Indianapolis, connecting Riverside Park to White River State Park.
The Eagle Creek Greenway winds through wooded parklands and along Eagle Creek Reservoir on a paved surface. The northern section connects neighborhoods to Eagle Creek Park, offering scenic views, abundant wildlife, and access to Indiana’s largest city park. A southern section connects westside neighborhoods to the White River Greenway.
The Eagle Creek Greenway is a scenic corridor currently in two sections (with efforts underway to connect them). The longer (8 miles) and most popular section connects neighborhoods to and through Eagle Creek Park, one of the nation’s largest municipal parks. The route features a paved surface as it winds through neighborhoods, wetlands, and forested landscapes before reaching the park, where it becomes a wide shoulder along the entirety of the main park road and connecting into the Northtown Trail on 71st Street. Along the way, users enjoy wildlife viewing, shaded paths, and sweeping lakefront views. With access to the park’s hiking, boating, kayaking, and birdwatching opportunities, the Eagle Creek Greenway offers a gateway to nature within minutes of the city. Inside Eagle Creek Park you’ll find plenty of adventure including a fee-based swimming beach, kayak rentals, the Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park, the Earth Discovery Center, and the Orinthology Center.
The smaller (3.1 miles), southern portion of the trail starts in the West Indianapolis neighborhood near I70, where it follows a levee along Eagle Creek before heading east along Raymond Street and connecting into the White River Greenway.
